Uniqueness of Divine Spark
Fleshing out the divine spark — Part II
The divine spark is unique like all of God’s creations. Much like fingerprints, no two sparks are identical. The notion of the uniqueness of the divine spark may be akin to or the element comprising souls. Poet John Keats speaks of divine sparks when discussing “soul making.”
There may be intelligences or spark of the divinity in millions — but they are not Souls till they acquire identities, till each one is a personality itself. Intelligences are atoms of perception — they know and they see and they are pure, in short they are God — how then are Souls to be made? How then are these sparks which are God to have identity given them — so as ever to possess a bliss peculiar to each one’s individual existence? –> Jennifer N. Wunder, Keats, Hermeticism and the Secret Societies, (Burlington: Ashgate Publishing Company, 2008), 17.
To the extent to which the divine spark equates to a “soul,” or is part of the soul that makes individuals unique is a matter for debate. If the divine spark equates to a concept of soul then we are discussing semantics. All members of the organic triad — humans, animals and vegetation possess a divine spark and all are unique. Even among twins, no two human beings are identical. No two animals are identical. If God has numbered each individual hair as “unique” for all individuals, it follows that God implements a unique divine spark for all of God’s creations.
Question: do viruses and other microscopic organisms contain a divine spark. Since they comprise a part of God’s creation, it follows that organisms contain such a spark. Again, divine sparks are unique to each living element. Yet, they are similar. Divine sparks unite God’s family of creation, causing an interdependency or community of individuals.
